DEST course: Web-based Taxonomy and Biodiversity Information Processing

Note the time - 3 days in October – November 2014, exact dates to be defined.

The course focuses on web-based taxonomy, biodiversity information processing, electronic data sharing, and interoperability in the context of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) data network in support of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). In addition to overview lectures there are presentations on practical use cases, and a hands-on session using an information management tool to create taxonomic and biodiversity information systems. The hands-on exercise encompasses building taxonomic databases, computer-aided-identification systems, and working with geographic information systems.
