ForBio annual meetings with focus on biosystematics gathers scientists and students to talk about their projects and current results, to share experiences on methods, and support networking within the scientific community. We encourage particularly early career researchers to use this meeting as an opportunity to present and discuss their own research in biosystematics and meet peers.
Renowned keynote speakers will contribute with talks on the state of the art and cutting-edge methods within the field of taxonomy and systematics, as well as on other professional skills vital to researchers throughout their careers.

Keynote speakers
- Daniele Silvestro is an assistant professor in computational biology at the University Fribourg (Switzerland) and associate scientist at the university of Gothenburg (Sweden). His research is focused on the development of new models and software with applications in evolutionary biology, geology, sociology, and conservation biology. His most recent programs include new tools to perform phylogenetic analyses and artificial intelligence approaches to estimate patterns of species richness and guide biodiversity conservation policies. Beside academic research he is an avid fossil hunter and mountain hiker.
- M. Teresa Aguado Molina (Maite Aguado) is a professor and scientific director of the Biodiversitätsmuseum at the Georg August University, Göttingen. Her main research lines are Biodiversity, evolution, development, and regeneration abilities of marine invertebrates, mostly annelids. She is currently leading and developing a new exhibition for the Biodiversitätsmuseum that will be open to public in 2025.
- Sophie von der Heyden is an Associated Professor of Marine Genomics and Conservation at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Her research is by necessity broad, but primarily focusses on the conservation and sustainable utilisation of species and the marine environment. Her particular interests lie in the applicability of molecular ecological and genomic tools to inform marine spatial planning and understanding resilience and adaptation of marine species to ongoing and future change, as well as the impacts of changing marine communities on society.
- Oleksandr Holovachov is Senior Curator at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. His research focuses on the systematics and diversity of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine nematodes as well as the interactions between nematodes and other organisms. He is also investigating the evolution of parasitism in nematodes by combining morphological, developmental and genomic data of free-living, symbiotic and parasitic species.

The meeting takes place in Trondheim at NTNU Akrinn building (Kalvskinnet).
Presentations
All ForBio members and associates are invited to submit oral and speed talk contributions to present their research! You will be asked to upload your abstract as a Word-file when registering for the meeting. Please use the provided format your abstract. Oral presentations will have 12 min talk & 3 minutes questions. Speed talks have 3 min talk and 2 min questions. Please submit your abstract (maximum 350 words) at the time of registration.

Accommodation & travel
ForBio members (MSc and PhD students and Postdocs based in Nordic countries) presenting their research (oral or speed talk) will receive free shared accommodation at Trondheim Vandrerhjem booked through ForBio
ForBio will cover the cost of return tickets to Trondheim for ForBio members based in Norway presenting at the conference. The travel will be booked through ForBio – more information after registration ended. Transport from the airport or in Trondheim is not covered.
